Global challenges, Mediterranean solutions – Decision making and concrete actions
As part of the MED program was held on June, 22nd & 23rd a workshop entitled «Global challenges, Mediterranean solutions - Decision making and concrete actions», aiming stakeholders of Mediterranean policy and makers of it to participate in a discussion on major EU issues, exploring the benefits that have occurred over the last 15 years of transnational cooperation in the Mediterranean region. The MED program will also demonstrate its future contribution to the efforts of governance in the Mediterranean region and has generated worldwide interest.
On the first day (June 22nd), on the theme of «Global challenges, Mediterranean solutions – Decision making and concrete actions» the workshop focused on political discussions for the Mediterranean cooperation. More specifically, were discussed the following issues:
- The importance of European territorial cooperation in the Mediterranean region
- Territorial cooperation and the need for macro-regional strategies in the Mediterranean
- European strategies and their implementation by a European Cooperation in the Mediterranean (e.g. Innovation, Environment, Energy Efficiency, Transport)
The second day (June 23rd) was presented the new program INTERREG MED and this first call for project proposals.
Initially, the structure of the program, the background of this, the types of eligible and what are the expectations for the impact of this were presented. Then, were presented the rules and procedures for submitting proposals and after these was organized a dinner for the participants, who were able to discuss about with their potential future partners in the program, to share their past experience and to discover their common interests in various topics.
Finally, were organized parallel sessions on Innovation (creation of innovative cooperation in crucial sections of the program), Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy Resources, Transport, Natural and Cultural Resources, Sustainable Tourism and the Management of Protected Areas.
“SYNERGASIA Ltd", represented by executives of it, concerned about the strategic cooperation issues in the Mediterranean region, but also interested in the proposals of the new program INTERREG MED, participated in the event.
