6th World Water Forum
Every three years, since 1997, World Water Forum motivates creativity, innovation, competence and know-how in favor of water. It brings together all the stakeholders, in order they discuss issues of local, regional and global interest, which require a common framework of objectives and specific targets.
“SYNERGASIA Ltd.” participated in the 6th World Water Forum, which took place on 12-14th March, in Marseilles.
The goal of the Forum was to anticipate with the challenges of the world today and bring the issues of water in every political agenda, supporting that there is no crucial progress regarding the sustainability of water resources, while the issues of it are still unsolved. An important pillar of the discussions was the assurance of access and use of water, worldwide, as an inalienable human right.
Beyond its core priority, the Forum worked on the following themes:
- Guarantee access to water for all and the Right to water
- Improve access to integrated sanitation services for all
- Contribute to hygiene and health through water and sanitation
- Prevent and respond to water-related risks and crises
- Contribute to Cooperation and Peace through water
- Βalance multiple uses through Integrated Water Resource Management
- Contribute to food security by optimal use of water
- Harmonize water and energy
- Promote green growth and value ecosystem services
- Improve the quality of water resources and ecosystems
- Adjust pressures and footprints of human activities on water
- Respond to climate and global changes in an urbanizing world
In the morning session of 13th March, in the relevant session at Ministerial Round Table with an intervention, Mr. Andreadakis highlighted the importance and the difficulties of cross-border cooperation and confirmed the stable orientation of Greece to strengthen these partnerships at international, multilateral but also bilaterally level. He referred to the international conventions ratified by Greece, stressing the relatively recent (2010) confirmation of the UN Convention on transnational waters, as well as the partnerships has been developed with the neighboring countries (Prespa Agreemen, interstate waters with Bulgaria and Turkey) .
